1. Germination starts when a seed imbibes water.
2. The embryo releases gibberellin (GA) to the aleurone (outer layer of the seed coat).
3. The aleurone secretes α-amylase to hydrolyze sugars in the endosperm.
4. Sugars absorbed from the endosperm by the scutellum (cotyledon) are consumed as the embryo grows.
