Female secondary sex characteristics:
The ovaries produce estrogens, such as estradiol,
which stimulate the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics:
- less facial hair
- wider hips
- enlarged breasts, functional mammary glands
- more subcutaneous fat
- fat deposits mainly around the buttocks, thighs and hips (pear shape)
In mammals, progesterone is involved in preparing and maintaining the uterus
for pregnancy.
